Hutchinson, and Permanent Secretary Donovan Stanberry today (March 22, 2016) met with members of the All-Island Cane Farmers Association at the Ministry’s New Kingston office. Among the issues discussed were the future of the Monymusk and Long Pond sugar factories; the decline (“dive”) in the price of sugar; the ongoing problem of cane fires, particularly in Westmoreland, Hanover; and the need for financing.

Drafting of Interim Regulations for Cannabis Industry Underway

The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Ganja, this week, gave instructions for drafting of interim regulations for the Cannabis industry to begin. The instructions came after an exhaustive process including consultation with key stakeholders by the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA). BSJ Steps Up Activities against Faulty Block Makers

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) is intensifying its activities to increase the compliance rate among block makers. Already, a number of manufacturers have brought their operations up to standard, since the agency raised concern about the high percentage of faulty hollow concrete blocks on the market.
