Agriculture minister calls for expansion of coconut industry

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon. Audley Shaw, is urging coconut growers to “start the planting programme now” in order to rebuild Jamaica’s coconut industry and return it to, or even surpass peak production levels formerly attained. “Our focus now,” Minister Shaw told the growers at their AGM held Saturday May 5 at the Jamaica Conference in downtown Kingston, “should now be squarely turned on demanding how we will move our coconut industry forward, given the noted increase in global demand.” Lamenting the fact that while global demand for coconuts have...

Anti-Dumping and Subsidies Commission hosts Training Seminars

The Anti-Dumping and Subsidies Commission (ADSC) is inviting manufacturers, producers and other stakeholders to its training seminars to be held in May. The seminars are a continuation of the series which started in April and will be held May 17 and 30, 2018 at the Courtleigh Hotel and Suites, Knutsford Boulevard. Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw on April 30, met with an Israeli delegation of Agriculture and Water Experts at his New Kingston offices. The delegation is on a fact finding mission to Jamaica. Minister Shaw and the delegation held discussions on the possibilities for cooperation in water, agriculture and domestic security. Minister Shaw commends Irish potato farmers

Manchester farmers produced 70% of the Irish potatoes reaped in Jamaica for the 2017-2018 season which have earned them the praises of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, who addressed them at the National Irish Potato Stakeholders’ Seminar in Devon, Manchester, on April 26. For the July 2017-September 2018 season, some 900 hectares of Irish potato have been planted and 14 million lbs. harvested to date. “Our mission must be to produce enough Irish potato to satisfy the local market as well as export to other Caribbean countries, Minister Shaw said.”...
