Profile

Mr Omar Chedda is a Development Specialist for investment, international trade, energy, environment, and small business development. 

In his current role at the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce Mr Chedda is responsible for guiding the development of appropriate policies and programmes to expand investments and maximise their benefits in collaboration with stakeholders. 

Mr Chedda, a certified Public Private Partnership Professional (CP3P), has over 20 years of experience in public and private sector development through policy analysis and project implementation. He is trained in U.S. trade and investment policies via the International Visitor Leadership programme organised by the U.S. State Department and in international arbitration and investment treaties from Columbia University and the University of the West Indies, Barbados, respectively. 

He has been involved in negotiations at the United Nations to reform the Investor State Dispute Settlement system to improve the alignment between investor and host state rights and responsibilities; in negotiations for bilateral investment treaties and trade agreements; as well as the development of the framework for Special Economic Zones.  

He is a member of the Caribbean Circle for Economics of Innovation, which is a Compete Caribbean initiative promoting innovation in the region.  

Mr Chedda serves his immediate community as a Justice of the Peace.
